It was a strong crowd last week as dozens of buyers filled the Benalla Saleyards to see 12500 sheep go up for sale at the annual Benalla Special Sheep Sale on Friday.
A number of young ewes, older ewes, ewe lambs, Merinos and rams were sold at the sale, with lots ranging from seven to 800 going under the hammer.
The joint Rodwells and Landmark sale attracted 51 vendors in total from across the region, including studs from Thoona, Benalla, Violet Town and Tarcombe.
Landmark Benalla sold a total of 3668 sheep, with 790 going unsold.
The only ewes and lamb lot achieved an average of $259 for 111 sheep, with the 1375 one-and-a-half-year-old ewes selling for an average of $240.
Ewe lambs achieved the next best average for Landmark’s sales, with 1769 ewe lambs sold for an average of $156, with 121 Merino ewes averaging $100 each.
