By Country News on December 29, 2015

Following what was rated the best Stock and Land Beef Week ever, Beef Week will return in 2016 from Wednesday, January 27 to Thursday, February 4.

Beef Week 2016 will mark 25 years since the event started with 50 studs in 1992.

It now regularly tops 200 studs with most using it as their major marketing exercise.

Beef Week 2016 will open on Wednesday, January 27 in the north-east Riverina, move to the south-east Riverina the next day and then cross the Murray for Day 3 in north-east Victoria on Friday, January 29.

Days 4 and 5 around Melbourne will be on the weekend and then it’s off to east Gippsland for Day 6 on Monday, February 1.

It’s then on to a busy two days in the Western District finishing up with Day 9 on Thursday, February 4 covering the Goulburn Valley and the western Riverina.

‘‘This year (2015) we had many visitors travelling through all the days, which indicates the importance of the event,’’ Beef Week director Geoff Phillips said.

‘‘We had reports of outstanding bull sales during Beef Week but we estimate another 4000 bulls were on display at the autumn bull sales.’’

The RASV Beef Week Heifer Challenge, which involves the judging of pens of 10 registered heifers, has created additional visits to studs that enter with visitors keen to discover the standard of females that will progress into the stud herd and produce the bulls of the future.
